Dont trust the schools - 9/15/2011
My children have just started school in Neptune and I will be taking them out due the extreme poor performance of the schools. See the NJ department of education web site for all of the details. When I questioned the principal, he refused to tell me how they are addressing the fact that 60% of the 4 graders cannot pass the state proficiently test in reading and writing. This on top of the fact that they spend over 8,000 per student per year.  Read More

It's a great place to raise a family - 3/24/2008
I grew up in Neptune twp. I spent all of my childhood and part of my early adult life there. I had a great life there. I would call it Lower to middle class suburban life. Some area's are what you make of it and some are what they are. However, Neptune has and will always have it's racial issues. Neptune City is predominately white while Neptune twp has it's fair share of mixed cultures. neptune has grown in industry/business since I last lived there, but all for the good. We didn't have Walmart or places within walking distances. If you didn't have a car, bike or motorbike(of some sort) you were stuck. there was next to nothing in public transportation and still remains that way in the area I grew up in. Neptune twp flows into Asbury Park. Asbury Park is a horse of a different color, but it's on the rebound and in some parts quite costly to live in.
Most of my family remains there and are thriving well. Even my niece's and nephew's have grown up there and live very productive Read More
